Nursery Life - August 2020

Everyday we are creating, playing and learning so many great things in our nurseries. So we thought it would be a nice idea to pull out some of our favourite things from the month to share with you.

During August we've had so many things going on. These includes activities like an Olympic Day, lots of messy and creative sessions and not forgetting our very important Graduation Day for our school leavers!

Eco-schools

We're big on being environmentally friendly and recently our Southampton, Walcot, and Bounds Green nursery all obtained the Green Flag Status accredit (the highest award), which is a programme that sees children lead the way in making little changes that deliver big environmental differences. Well done guys! And all our other nurseries are working towards this award too, so watch this space!

Our Mini Graduation

It's a time of mixed emotions when our pre-schoolers are getting ready to leave us for the dizzy height of 'big school'.  We can't let them go without a celebration though, and it's always good to have an excuse for a party so August is always busy with graduation days and events. They involve lots of food, the little ones making their own graduation hats, playing lots of games and not forgetting them collecting their certificates. Our families are invited along to be part of it, but this year we've had to keep the graduations within our bubbles... but it doesn't mean it's any less fun. There's only one thing left say... good luck to all our preschooler leavers, we're going to miss you!

Busy Being Active!

One thing we can know for sure is that our children are itching to be on their feet and keeping active! This month, our Sutton nursery held their very own Olympics which started with listening to different National Anthems of the world. The children then enjoyed events such as running, hurdling and shotput.

Over in our Watford nursery they've been dressing up and enjoying some role play. The theme - superheroes! Here they are, wearing their capes with pride having an amazing time in the garden.

Getting Creative

Our nurseries love to get creative... and what better way that to take some inspiration from some of our favourite stories. Our Charlton nursery themed their play around Julia Donaldson's The Paper Dolls book and made lots of paper dolls and decorated them by colouring and sticking.

Over at our Finchfield nursery, our pre-schoolers celebrated Jamaican Independence Day by dancing to Jamaican music and making flags. The little ones in Catepillars also enjoyed some cultural play by decorating flags for their 'Flag of the World' display.

All About Food

Food glorious food! Our Seaham nursery have been incoroprating food into their activities, starting off with toasting yummy marshmallows whilst learning all about fire safety.

Tea time was also turned into a fun activity when nursery chef Jean joined the children to create their own muffin pizza toppings. The little ones loved getting involved and are looking forward to starting weekly baking sessions with Jean!

Taking Advantage of the Hot Weather

With the hot weather this month, our children have been taking advantage of the outdoor space each of our nurseries have! Our Burton nursery had a holiday day where they went camping in tents which they helped to assemble! They then had lots of snacks in the tents and designed their own postcards. Our Watford nursery had been planting some vegetables as part of our Health and Well-being Programme. They filled trays with soil using different tools and carefully planted little leeks.
