We're the Energy Emperors!

It’s never too early to teach our children the importance of protecting the environment, and that includes understanding how our energy use affects the planet. That’s why we’ve introduced Energy Emperors – our very own guardians of smart energy habits!

What Do Energy Emperors Do?

Each week, one child is selected to be the Energy Emperor, taking on the important role of monitoring energy use in our nursery. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Switching off lights and plugs after use.

  • Encouraging limited screen time among their friends at nursery.

  • Reminding others of the importance of energy-saving behaviours.

Every year, all our Little Pioneers also participate in Earth Hour, a global initiative where we switch off lights for an hour to show our commitment to energy conservation. It’s a fun and meaningful way for children to learn about the importance of reducing energy consumption on a larger scale.

Our everyday energy-saving practices

Energy conservation isn't just the job of our Energy Emperors; it’s something we practice every day at Little Pioneers. Here are some of the energy-saving habits we’ve adopted:

  • Going paperless: We’ve reduced printing in favour of digital tools, teaching children how using less paper also helps to save energy.

  • Energy-saving light bulbs: We use efficient bulbs throughout our nurseries, demonstrating how small switches can make a big difference in reducing electricity use.

  • No standby mode: All of our equipment is fully turned off when not in use, ensuring no energy is wasted on standby power.

  • Energy-efficient appliances: Even when washing items, we opt for energy-saving cycles on our machines, showing children that there are smarter ways to use everyday appliances.

Instilling Lasting Habits

Teaching our Little Pioneers about how we use energy helps them to understand the bigger picture. It enables them to understand how their daily actions impact the environment, whilst giving them a sense of responsibility as they’re putting it all into practice.

Whether it’s limiting screen time, unplugging devices, or encouraging family members to turn off lights, these small acts of responsibility grow into lasting, eco-friendly habits. We make it clear that saving energy isn’t just about flicking a switch, but about preserving resources for future generations.

At Little Pioneers, we believe that energy conservation is a group effort. Together, with the help of our Energy Emperors, we’re taking steps towards a brighter and greener future for all!
