As the bright summer days are approaching us, many families are starting to think about fun activities to keep their Little Pioneer entertained this summer.

We all know too well about the rising cost of living which has shaped how many of us are spending this year. But at Little Pioneers we believe that fun doesn’t necessarily mean breaking the bank. In fact, we believe that the simplest of ideas can form the best family memories… some of which can also help in the core development of young children.

So, we’ve put together some simple ways you save money this summer, whilst keeping your family entertained.

Free family fun

A key element of family fun is playing and spending time together. At Little Pioneers we believe that playing is instrumental in the core developement of young children. It enourages a healthy dose of awe and wonder, which provokes imagination, curiosity and creativity in young minds.

  • In all our nurseries we encourage children to play with loose parts, recycling materials and everyday items. This encourages our Little Pioneers to not only use their imagination but to also be creative. During play time at home why don’t you try using some household items to create something fun like playing shop? You can do this by creating your own fashion store or supermarket. You could even make up the price labels and use paper money. Putting it all together is just as much fun as being a sales advisor and it doesn’t cost a penny.

  • Or perhaps ask your Little Pioneer to make up an interesting story using selected household items. This will not only keep them occupied for a little while but will also help provoke imagination. You may even get a little chuckle from their story too.

  • Family night in - chairs pushed together, covered in a blanket makes a great tent, add some pots and pans and a few other household objects and you’ve got your own camping site in your living room. Tell a few stories and ask your Little Pioneer to tell their very own too... now that’s what we call a fun night in.

  • Climbing, whizzing around tracks, dancing, and going on little outdoor adventures are all part of daily life at our nurseries. This type of play, as well as being super fun and great physical activity gives children the opportunity to extend their limits, learn life skills and conquer their fears. So, on your family walk, why don’t you make it a treasure hunt. Ask your Little Pioneer to find certain coloured leaves, or a flat pebble, or certain coloured flowers and then make a collage of your day out when you get back home. A treasure hunt will burn off some energy but also encourages your Little Pioneer to be active, resilient and use their problem-solving skills.
