Child Friendly Recipe - Shepherd's Pie
It doesn't get more traditional than Shepherds Pie! A wholesome favourite, packed full of fresh ingredients and loads of flavour is a priority for us and means it's included on our nursery menu time and time again.
If you'd like to give it a go yourself, here’s a quick and easy recipe for you to follow. It's great for little ones to help out with, and they can see and learn about exactly what goes into this tasty dish.
Ingredients:
- Chopped Tomatoes – 160g
- Minced Lamb – 200g
- Garlic Puree – 2g
- Carrots – 40g
- Celery Head – 5g
- Dried Mixed Herbs – 2g
- Large Spanish Onions – 1 each
- Boiling Water – 200ml
- Gravy – 15g
- Peas – 200g
- Fresh Veg Potatoes – 500g

Ready, steady, cook!

Preheat the oven to 180C.

Dry fry the minced lamb until coloured.

Chop/dice up the garlic, onions, carrots, swede and then add to the mince along with the mixed herbs and continue to fry for 1-2 minutes.

Add the chopped tomatoes and water, stir well and bring the mixture to a simmer.

Thicken with the gravy powder. Stir in the peas and cook until warmed through.

Transfer the mixture to an ovenproof casserole dish and set aside to cool slightly.

Meanwhile, boil the potatoes until tender. Drain well, then mash with a potato masher.

Spread the mashed potatoes over the filling mixture in an even layer.

Transfer the casserole to the oven and cook for 40-50 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden-brown and the filling is bubbling.
For vegetarians please use soya mince instead of the lamb
