World of Work - Zookeeper for a day!

At Little Pioneers, we believe early years education isn’t just important - it’s powerful.

Our recent research revealed that the formative first five years of life hold the key to workplace success.

That’s why we created our Work Experience Days - to give children real-world opportunities to explore, imagine, and put their learned skills into action in inspiring settings.

Our HooZoo Experience Day gave two of our Little Pioneers a chance get stuck into the wild-side of work, and discover what it takes to care for a variety animals.

This experience day gave two Little Pioneers the chance to dive into the world of animal care at HooZoo in Telford - a family-run zoo dedicated to fostering empathy towards animals. There were some very furry (and scaly!) species just waiting to be discovered across its 25-acre site.

Oscar (4) and Hattie (2) spent the day alongside expert animal specialist Melanie, stepping into the muddy boots of real-life zookeepers. They helped feed the mischievous lemurs, joined in on meerkat playtime, and assisted with the special care of rescued residents big and small - a prickly hedgehog, a slithery snake, and a rather large lizard. It was a hands-on adventure they won’t forget in a hurry!

The experience gave the children a meaningful opportunity to connect with nature, while learning responsibility and empathy through hands-on animal care. A memorable day that brought early education to life in the most meaningful (and muddy!) way.

“Oscar has always been interested in animals and today has been brilliant for him to get a sense of what caring for animals entails as a potential career so early on. Sending Oscar to nursery was super important to myself and my partner, since he joined last year it’s made such an impact on his confidence, self-awareness and how he looks out for those around him – it’s been great to see.”
