Ready, steady, cook!
-
Firstly, dry fry the mince beef until it is evenly coloured. If a lot of fat comes out of the beef, we recommend soaking this up with some kitchen roll and discarding.
-
Next, dice the onion and celery, grate the carrot and add all of the vegetables, mixed herbs and garlic to the beef and cook for a further 10 minutes.
-
Afterwards, add the chopped tomatoes and slowly bring to the boil and simmer on a low heat until the white sauce is made.
-
In an ovenproof dish put 1/3 of the beef sauce, top with a layer of pasta, then top with 1/3 of the white sauce and 1/3 the grated cheese.
-
Repeat this process twice more until all the ingredients have been used up. Bake in the oven on 160 degrees for about 1 hour and 15 minutes or until the pasta is cooked.
For the White Sauce:
-
In one pan slowly bring the milk to the boil. In a separate pan (must be able to hold 2L) melt the margarine then add the flour.
-
Over a low heat slowly add the milk to the flour and margarine mixture stirring continually. Once all the milk has been added slowly bring to the boil then remove from the heat.
For the vegetarian option, please use soya mince instead of the beef.
